Rune reveals altercation with Ruud after their French Open quarterfinal

Holger Rune talks about his strained relationship with Casper Ruud

Ruud And Rune Clash

On Wednesday in Paris, Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune and Casper Ruud played an all-Scandinavian quarterfinal at the French Open. Eventually, it was Ruud to win in 4 sets, but unfortunately, it didn’t go unnoticed Holger’s erratic behavior. Rune shouted at his mother, making her leave the player’s box in what was a highly embarrassing episode. Soon after, he gave a rather cold handshake to Casper Ruud, with the Norvegian player clearly disapproving of that behavior.

According to Ekstrabladet, Rune was not impressed with Ruud shouting at him in the locker room after the match. Holger said that he was not happy also for Ruud talking to him during the match and complaining about Rune “checking every mark.”

“It all starts when I ask the judge to look for a mark. It’s very close to the line and I can not see if it’s inside or out. Then he says, ‘Do you have to check every mark?’  And this is the first time I ask the judge for it,” said Rune.

Holger added that he was upset about what has happened also because he has huge respect for the Norwegian player.

“It’s a bit ambivalent, because I’ve said all along that I have an insane amount of respect for him and that he’s an excellent gravel player, so I do not understand where it’s coming from? Should I lie down on my knees and say congratulations to him?

99% percent of the players on the tour have respect for me, and then there is just him. I probably live with that,” added Rune.
