Paris discovers an immense new player: Taylor Townsend

We definitely have a new star in the making and a very unconventional one.

Teenager Taylor Townsend was little known from the big audience, but she has already shined in 2012 winning the Australian Open in the junior category and losing in the Wimbledon final (also junior) last year to Belinda Bencic.

Taylor is unconventional in many ways. First she doesn’t have the typical physic du role (she looks rather over weighted), but she compensate it with an incredible hand and she is capable of striking really spectacular shots. Second she is left-handed and she has a forehand that reminds Nadal’s (that’s definitely not usual for women’s tennis). Third her shots are really heavy to go quite deep in the court. Another interesting and nice part is that she has a great personality.

The match vs. Cornet

Taylor had to overcome a very hostile crowd as she was playing in Paris against home favorite Alize Cornet, but she didn’t really mind it to defeat her 6-4 4-6 6-4 in an epic match.

After the match Taylor said “I knew the crowd was going to be against me going into the match, but I didn’t know to what degree because I have never played on a stadium like that in the girl’s home country. But I knew for the most part that they were going to be against me. So I really just tried to focus on myself, focus on what I should be doing, trying not to really think about how every single person in that stadium, basically, is going against you and wants you to lose.

“I just really tried to focus in on what I was doing and tried to take it one ball at a time.”

Next vs. Navarro

In the next match Taylor will play another very talented player:  Carla Suarez-Navarro.

This is going to be fun.
