Ranked no.6, Naomi reached the 2nd round in Beijing after a “routine” win of Zarina Diyas (6-4 6-3). The Japanese looked in full control of the situation and ready for another deep run in China after she reached the final in Tokyo 2 weeks ago following her US Open title.

Collins
Ranked no. 37, Danielle managed to interrupt a 5-matches losing streak in the first round in Beijing after beating Timea Backsinsky 6-2 3-6 6-3. Before defeating the Swiss, the American didn’t win a match since the 3rd of August.
However, Danielle was in fine form at the beginning of the year, and she won the tournament in Newport Beach before enjoying a couple of deep runs in Indian Wells and Miami.
