The new generation is getting better and better at WTA level with many young players reaching a career high.
Osaka
Naomi decided not to play in Wuhan citing a viral illness. However, the Japanese took advantage of the fact that Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Garcia lost a lot of points after last week and she went 2 places up.
Naomi is currently ranked no.6 (career high), but with Petra Kvitova and Elina Svitolina already out in Beijing, she is already projected to be the new world no.4 from next week.
Sabalenka
Aryna won a fantastic title in Wuhan last week to go 4 places up. She is currently ranked no.16 (career high), but if she has another deep run in Beijing she can already approach the top10.
Anisimova
Amanda lost in the 1st round of the qualifications in Wuhan (and now in Beijing). Still, thanks to some other players losing a lot of points (eg. Vickery and Vesnina), she went 1 place up to be ranked no.92 (career high). No bad for a 17-year-old.
Potapova
Anastasia (also 17) had a fantastic run in Tashkent where she reached the final starting straight from the qualifications. After last week, Potapova went 39 places up to be ranked no.93 (career high).
Danilovic
The Serbian (yes… another 17-year-old) lost in the 2nd round in Tashkent at the hands of Potatova. However, that was enough for her to go 4 places up and be ranked no.97 (career high).
