Cori Gauff is one of the most correct players on tour. During the French Open, the American sensation received an odd warning for coaching. The tennis world was impressed with how the teenager handled the warning compared to the behavior of more seasoned players.
‘I told my father to talk to me during matches’
Soon after the warning, Coco had a nice “chat” with umpire Marijana Veljovic to say:
“I just want to let you know, that this is the first time a ref has told me this. Even after the match, I tell my dad, ‘don’t say anything.’ That’s why I’m shocked because I literally tell him, ‘I just want you to clap, don’t say anything to me.’”
Coco was widely praised for how she managed her situation.
… It just really is refreshing to watch a player have a polite, calm conversation with an umpire and treat her like a person, even in disagreement. https://t.co/Li0ziU2AkU
