If somebody had doubts about Rafael Nadal in Paris, well he had the answer.
Rafa was in an absolutely ominous form against world no.279 Robby Ginepri to win 6-0 6-3 6-0. The match was a real massacre. Ginepri had some little chances to compete with Rafa only in the first part of the second set to win 3 games. In fact, in the first set there was a bagel (6-0), but the American managed to lead 3-2 in the second. Then the “glory” was over for the American that lost 10 consecutive games. Finally Rafa won this match scoring 90 points vs. Ginepri’s 47. Match Stats.
Nadal: I still need to improve
A perfectionist Rafa wasn’t even happy by his performance to comment “I won this round, but it was a bit difficult because of the weather, but it was very important for me, because it gave me the opportunity of having two days’ break so that I can practise. That’s always positive. When you win, you’re always happy. Of course, as always, I had ups and downs, and I could have played being a bit more aggressive.”
Next vs. Thiem
The Spaniard will now play world no.57 Dominic Thiem in the second round. The young Austrian is a very interesting prospect. He is not expected to upset Nadal, but he can give us an interesting match.
