‘It was a wrong decision,’ Djokovic slams Wimbledon while Nadal remains neutral

Novak explains why he is not happy with the decision taken from Wimbledon to ban tennis players from Russia and Belarussia

Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are among the top favorites at the current French Open. However, they are requested to comment on the controversy around Wimbledon. This year the Championships are stripped by the ATP and WTA points after their controversial ban on Russian and Belarussian players.

While Nadal reminded quite neutral on the issue, Djokovic was quite vocal on the issue stating that Wimbledon made a mistake.

Nole commented:

“A few days ago I found out that there was a document of recommendation from the British government towards the All England Club and where they had several options.

There was not only one on the table. They haven’t discussed it with anybody from ATP or any individual players or for that matter Russian or Belarusian players to just communicate and understand whether there is common ground where both sides could be making a compromise and something could work out.

So I think it was a wrong decision. I don’t support that at all. It’s a lose-lose situation for everyone.”
