Edberg: Federer has no chances with Nadal and Djokovic on the baseline, he needs to attack

Stefan Edberg has been one of the most enjoyable players to watch and he made his career on attacking. Roger Federer hired him as his coach because he knows he needs to be more aggressive… apparently that is the only solution for the Maestro if he wants to win something big once again.

Roger needs to attack ….

During a recent interview the Sweden stressed this point “One of the first things we talked about, was what we could do to improve his game and develop it. Roger is 32 year old, but I think he needs to be more aggressive, attack more.

I think he understood that, and he agrees. He is an all-court player, but in the past he won a lot staying at the back. I don’t think I reveal a great secret saying that today Roger can’t beat the very best players in the world staying at the back of the baseline and playing a defensive game. He has a great serve, amazing forehand and a good game at the net, so he needs to use this skills more”

… and with some like he can have a good French Open

Then Edberg added some thoughts about Roger’s chances in Paris “I told Roger that he still has a chance to win important tournaments. He is playing very well. The French Open, as you can imagine, is not a priority, but with a little luck in the main draw’s shuffle he can do very well this year in Paris. At Wimbledon and the US Open his chances grow bigger”

So we are going to see an even more aggressive Federer with many runs at the net. Lots of fun… isn’t it?
