
Denis Shapovalov had to battle more than expected in his opener in Shenzhen against the world no.100 Ilya Ivashka.
After winning the 1st set 7-5, Denis was completely outplayed in the second set (6-2). Eventually, the Canadian found his way in the third set, but the match was suspended (rain) when Denis was leading 3-0. When the contest resumed, the Canadian found immediately his focus before winning the match 7-5 2-6 6-3.

Next vs. Nishioka
Denis will play the qualifier and world no. 171 Yoshihito Nishioka in the 2nd round. They have never played each other so far.
