Gilles Simon wins the title in Metz for the 3rd time in his career after triumphing in 2010 and 2013.

The Frenchman defeated the qualifier and world no.166 Matthias Bachinger in the final 7-6 (2) 6-1. Gilles had to battle hard for the entire 1st set, then Matthias imploded in the breaker to then being unable to give a proper resistance in the second set. The German admitted that he was quite tired after playing 7 matches in 8 days.

The key moment

Probably the key moment of the match was the 11th game of the opener when Simon saved 3 consecutive set points when he was 0-40 down.

The Frenchman commented, “I put a lot of energy into this game because I felt like it was really important to change this momentum if possible and I was able to do it, and it was for sure the key point of the match.”

This is Simon’s 14th career title
