WTA MADRID. Injured Swiatek is out leaving Badosa, Sabalenka as the favorites. Raducanu…

Iga Swiatek will not be able to compete in Madrid this week

Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek will not play the WTA1000 in Madrid since she is struggling with her arm. The world no.1 has played a lot of tennis recently after winning 4 consecutive tournaments in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, and Stuttgart.

Iga released the following statement: “After intense last weeks and winning 4 titles in a row it’s time to take care of my arm that has been fatigued since the Miami Open and I haven’t had a chance to handle it properly.

I need a break from playing so intensively in order to treat my arm well and that’s why, unfortunately, I have to withdraw from the Mutua Madrid Open. My body needs rest. I’m going to take some time to prepare for Rome and Paris. See you soon there. Hopefully, I will play in Madrid many times in the future – looking forward to it.”

Paula Badosa Gibert and Aryna Sabalenka are probably going to be the favorites to win the title in Spain. It will be interesting to see the performance of Emma Raducanu who has decided to part ways with her coach Torben Beltz after just 5 months.
