Serena Williams was not sure till the very last moment if playing in Rome because she was suffering from a injury to her left thigh. (see article)
Finally she got the decision to give it a try and that was probably a good one. It took only 76 minutes for the world no.1 to dismiss Andrea Petkovic in straight sets.
The match looked as a sort of formality with Serena getting a 4-0 lead in the opening set and a 3-0 lead in the second one to finally win with a very comfortable 6-2 6-2.
Serena will play compatriot Varvara Lepchenko in the following round. Head to head is 1-0 for Serena.
Now it is going to be intersting to see if Serena’s thigh won’t get any toll from this match.
