Emma Raducanu talks about the challenges and the opportunities of playing tennis on clay

Emma Raducanu In Stuttgart

On Wednesday, Emma Raducanu had a great opening match in Stuttgart when she defeated Storm Sanders 6-1 6-2. That was Emma’s first professional win on clay-court, a surface that she still needs to master. The 19-year-old will face home favorite Tamara Korpatsch before possibly clashing against the world no.1 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinal.

Emma looked quite confident in her opening match. The British sensation believes that playing on clay will help her to improve her craftiness. Raducanu commented:

“It was definitely not [easy to play her first match]. I feel like there were many long games that went to deuce, so I’m very happy to have battled through.

I think it’s definitely the duration of the points [that it’s tricky on clay]; it’s something I need to work more on. It will improve my craftiness and variety of shots.”
