Denis Shapovalov is eager to get back up in the rankings. The young Canadian is “only” ranked no.34, but he has virtually no points to defend from now till the end of the year.
Shapovalov’s run starts from St. Petersburg where seeded no.7, he has just reached the quarters after he defeated the world no.62 Matteo Berrettini 7-6 (6) 4-6 6-0 The Italian was particularly good to stay with the Canadian for the first 2 sets. Actually, Matteo was the only one to conquer a break (2nd set). However, in the decider, Shapovalov used his superior firepower at his best to concede no games.
That was one hecking good third set from Denis Shapovalov, blowing open what had been a squeaker.
Beats Matteo Berrettini 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-0 in St. Petersburg R2.
The kids are alright etc.
