The WTA event in Madrid gave a great boost in the WTA rankings to Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep.

Sharapova

Maria has won her 2nd back to back premier event in Madrid (after Stuttgart) to overtake Jelena Jankovic and Angelique Kerber in the rankings. Maria is now ranked no.7.

Halep

Simona Halep is on a roll. The Romanian trashed Maria Sharapova in the opening set of the Madrid final to then struggle to contain the Russian Beauty. Anyway being the runner-up in Madrid helped her to consolidate her world no.5 status and she is now just 21 points from world no.4 Vika Azarenka

. The overtake is imminent.

Garcia

Caroline Garcia is also climbing fast in the rankings. The Frenchwoman has reached the quarters in Madrid to climb 5 places in the rankings (now at a career high 46). More to come.
