Simona Halep beats Kvitova to reach the final in Madrid

Another super tournament from Simona Halep.

The Romanian managed to get to the final in a very tough half that was dominated by Serena Williams. Simona was definitely lucky that Serena had to retire, but the world no.5 has beaten great players on her way such as Lisicki, Ivanovic and now Kvitova.

Simona had to recover from a very tricky situation with Petra as she was 1 set and 1-3 down in the second. Then Simona got the upper hand to win 7 consecutive games and lead 2-0 in the decider. Kvitova was visibly under pressure to struggle every single game and then concede the set and the match to the Romanian. The final score was 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-2. Match Stats

Simona: I didn’t think I could win

“It was a very tough match,” Halep said. “She’s a great player and she played really well today. She served amazing and her forehand is really good. Today was a big challenge for me and I was fighting for every point until the end.

I didn’t believe anymore that I could win the match when I was down a set and a break. But I just stayed very focused and I tried to change the tactics a little bit, to play higher and more angles.”

The final vs. Sharapova

Simona will play Maria Sharapova in the final. Head to head is 2-0 for the Russian, but Simona has great chances to win this one.
