Stefanos Tsitsipas and Stan Wawrinka had the pleasure to train together in Monte Carlo, where they won the title. Wawrinka will be back to competitions after having issues recovering from his foot injury.
Stefanos Tsitsipas struggled to comment on Stan’s current form during the pre-tournament press conference. The Greek player said:
“I have seen him definitely play better. Having practiced with him in the past, he can play good tennis, Stan. On his best days, he’s someone that can step on the court and do a lot of good things out there from everywhere around the court.
But honestly, I feel like I have seen him better in the past, but I don’t think anyone should be judging based on that, because he’s just right off his surgery and you cannot be playing at 100% straightaway. It’s not really possible, to be honest with you.”

Ranked world no.5, the Greek played his last match on the 29th of March when he capitulated to world no.11 Carlos Alcaraz 7-5 6-3 in the 4th round in Miami (draw).
At the moment, during this season the Greek has achieved a compiled 17-7 match record. Stefanos Tsitsipas’s most significant achievement of the current season was reaching the final in Rotterdam.
Stan Wawrinka in 2022
LLWLWLWLLL Ranked no.236, Stan played his last match on the 29th of March when he was defeated by world no.130 Elias Ymer 6-2 6-4 in the 1st round of the Marbella Challenger (draw).
Currently, during this year Stan has achieved a 0-1 record.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Stan Wawrinka squared off only once. Their current head to head is 1-0 for Wawrinka. When they played, Stan Wawrinka won 7-6(6) 5-7 6-4 3-6 8-6 in the 4th round in Paris (French Open) in June 2019.
