Carlos Ramos releases a statement after Serena Williams’ incident

The Portuguese finally breaks his silence and he seems to be ok… for now

Carlos Ramos had a rather tough night when he officiated the US Open final between Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka.

The umpire from Portugal did the “mistake” to apply the rules while keeping a very professional behavior when he had to give 3 code violations to Serena Williams.

Unfortunately Ramos ended being heavily attacked and insulted by the American, and he had to be escorted out of the stadium with most of the crowd booing him heavily.

What Ramos said

Talking to the Tribuna Expresso, a Portuguese magazine, Carlos commented

“I’m fine, given the circumstances. It’s a delicate situation, but ‘à la carte’ arbitration does not exist. Do not worry about me!”

While the USTA and WTA defended Serena Williams (???), the ITF released a statement defending Ramos.

The big question now is if the Portuguese will sue Serena Williams.
