Sick Klizan beats unwatchable Fognini to win the title in Munich

Incredible result in Munich as seed no.1 Fabio Fognini managed to lose to a sick Martin Klizan (world no.111) after being 1 set up!

This result was out of this world. Martin Klizan is a very talented player, but he was coming from the qualifications and he was barely fit to play due to illness and he didn’t sleep the entire night!

Fabio was comfortably leading 6-2 in the first set to then implode and lose the other 2 sets in no time. Martin Klizan won 2-6 6-1 6-2… only Fognini can lose this kind of matches!

Fognini’s craziness

One of the most incredible part of the match was when the Italian was trying to get back in the match on a 2-6 6-1 1-0 score line. That was a crucial game and both players were battling to conquer it. So after a series of ads, Fognini missed a point to give another advantage to Klizan. At that point the Italian threw his racket on the ground and he received a warning. Not happy about that, he took the racket back and he smashed it on the ground once again to receive a penalty point: 2-0 for Klizan (that was even struggling to breath). Game over… Klizan goes and win the set, the match and the tournament.

Klizan: I struggled the entire night, I slept 30 minutes

Martin commented “I had problems with my stomach throughout last night. I think I slept only 30 minutes and I am now very tired. I was down after losing the first set, but I just wanted to keep fighting.”

This is Klizan’s 2nd career tournament after winning St. Petersburg in 2012 against Fognini… once again… nothing personal.
