Carla Suarez Navarro wins her first career title in Oeiras

Finally Suarez Navarro

Carla was the highest ranked player that didn’t manage to win a single career title to finally end the drought in Oeiras.

The Spaniard was seeded no1 and after Bouchard exit she was widely expected to win the title. Svetlana Kutznetsova had a different idea to b a real threat especially in the third set when she was leading 4-1. At that point Carla did fight back to win 5 consecutive games to win 6-4 3-6 6-4.

“I’m very happy I could finally win my first WTA titleI was a little bit nervous today. It was a difficult match too – it was windy today and we were both making mistakes, and we know each other well, but the most important thing for me today was just to be solid all the time.

On match point I was only thinking to put the ball in, and that’s what I did, and I felt so good when I finally finished the match. The ceremony was very special for me. I really love this tournament.”

This was Carla’s 6th final… the lucky one!

Good stuff from a very talented player!
