Nick Kyrgios decided to take on social to defend Emma Raducanu. The US Open champion has been struggling to find her way on the main tour after she conquered the title in New York.
After being so successful on the tennis court, Emma became the darling of many brands, also thanks to her fantastic personality and appearance. Many accused Emma of not focusing enough to pay too much attention to her endorsements. However, that is not the case as Emma is well known for putting massive effort into improving her tennis.
Clijsters vs. Raducanu or Osaka?
Recently, talking about Swiatek becoming no.1, tennis legend Kim Clijsters commented:
“We’ve seen others that kind of take a step back and say, `Oh, I’ve won a Slam now, I’ve made it. There’s sponsors coming in and I get treated like a princess wherever I go.’
Just because you’re the No.1 player and have won Slams, doesn’t mean you should treat other people differently.”
Many considered Kim’s comments as directed at Emma Raducanu or Naomi Osaka.
Hantuchova
Daniela Hantuchova, a former top tennis player and a top commentator, has recently commented:
“All the locker-room respect she had after the US Open is now kind of going away which is a shame.”
Kyrgios siding with Raducanu
Nick Kyrgios defended Raducanu with the following tweet:
“What’s with old retired players giving their opinion on our stars now? I love A-rod and I agree we all need to chill with the rackets and all that, but geezus, I read an article about a past female player talking about Raducanu, no offence but she is a far far bigger name already.”
