Naomi Osaka wins the US Open!
The Japanese sensation stuns for the second time in the same year Serena Williams in the Flushing Meadows final after defeating the American 6-2 6-4.
The match
Naomi was in complete control of the match especially in the 1st set when she got a massive 5-1 lead before winning the opener 6-2
The second set was an absolute drama. The Japanese was trailing 1-3 before she managed to recover the deficit, but some big drama happened in between.
In fact, in the second game of the second set, Serena received a first warning for coaching from Carlos Ramos (a very good umpire). Soon after Serena squandered her 1-3 lead by giving back a break after she committed 2 double faults; she smashed her racket, and she got a second code violation to lose the point (that’s by the books). That means that Osaka started the game from 15-0. However, Serena got angry to confront the umpire calling him a “thief: and accusing him of sexism (??? Weird as she was playing another woman!). At that point, the umpire could do anything else than giving a third code violation, and Serena lost the full game (3-3).
After all sorts of dramas, Naomi was great at keeping her cool to win the match 6-2 6-4.
Osaka bout keeping her nerves
Naomi commented
“I felt like I shouldn’t let myself be overcome by nerves or anything, and I should just really focus on playing tennis because that’s what’s gotten me to this point. So, yeah, I just thought, like, no matter what happens outside of the court, for me, when I step on the court, it’s just about tennis.”
