An ATP tournament in Greece?

ATP Stefanos Tsitsipas is becoming more and more a global tennis star and he wants to do something for his country: bringing an ATP event in Greece.

Currently ranked no.15, the youngster seems to be destined to break in the top10 rather soon, and he is aiming at qualifying to the ATP Finals in London already this year.

Stefanos has always said to be proud to have put Greece on the map in the tennis world and now he is delighted to be the critical element to bring an ATP event in his homeland.

There was already an ATP tournament in Athens between 1986 and 1990, but unfortunately that was it, and the Greek fans had to travel around if they wanted to see their “heroes.”

During a recent interview with Reuters, Stefanos commented

“I think if things go the same as they are now, we’re going to see an ATP 250 or 500 in the next three, four or five years (in Athens), in my opinion.

I know some people back home that are interested in doing this, and they showed me the project of how the tournament is going to look.

I was fascinated. It is in Athens of course, but I was surprised at the location because it’s actually very clever to stage this tournament there.”

According to Stefanos, the tournament could take place in February, April, October, or November.

That would be fantastic news for the Greek tennis.
