Serena Williams is in “Serena mode.”

The American defeated Simona Halep’s conqueror, Kaia Kanepi, after a fierce battle in the 4th round of the US Open.

The match

Serena had an outstanding start of the match to win the opening set 6-0 after dropping just 6 points! Things went to the opposite direction in the 2nd set after the Estonian got a 2-0 (and then 5-2) lead taking advantage of some unforced errors of the American.

Eventually, the affair went to the 3rd set. Serena succeeded to both win her first 2 (tough) service games and break Kanepi in the second game to grab a 3-0 lead. That cracked the resistance of the Estonian and Williams conceded just 1 point in the following 3 service games before winning 6-0 4-6 6-3.

A couple of points cost me the 2nd set. SERENA WILLIAMS

After the match, Serena commented

“It wasn’t easy, obviously. I think one thing [she] did well was to change her strategy and started doing just a completely different game and gave me a different look to her game.

I made one or two crucial errors and that cost me the second set, or at least cost me the first game, then she was holding pretty well at that point. It wasn’t like my level went down tremendously. It was one or two points that made a huge difference in that second set.”

Next vs. Karolina Pliskova

Serena will face Karolina Pliskova in the quarters. The head to head is 1-all.
