Maria was very happy with her performance to comment “The further you go in the tournament, the harder it gets, and I really wanted to step up today and produce a good performance. The first tournament on clay is always tough – it’s important to improve with each match and I think I’ve done that this week.
“I know how good Sara is on the surface and I was extra ready to perform against her. She has a lot of experience and really knows how to play, so I had to take care of things on my side of the net.”

Ana had a much harder task to beat her friend and compatriot Jelena Jankovic 6-3 7-5 in 1 hour and 28 minutes. “I’m definitely relieved. The last game was a little bit of a drama. When she saved that match point when my ball hit the net cord, that was just an amazing point. But it was a great way to finish the match. I really tried to step in on the tight situations at the end, that’s my game” said Ana.
