Dayana Yastremska had a rather emotional and successful week in Lyon, where she reached the final at the local WTA 250 tournament. Dayana was clearly heartbroken by the terrible situation in Ukraine as her country has been invaded by Russia.
Dayana couldn’t hold her tears during the speech that followed the final also to announce that she will donate the prize money she won in Lyon to a foundation in Ukraine.
Dayana commented:
“The prize money I earn here I’m going to give to the Ukrainian Foundation to support Ukraine. If Ukrainian people are watching me, I want to say ‘you guys are so strong, you have an amazing spirit, and I tried to fight for Ukraine’. I want to say thanks to every single person for standing by Ukraine.”
Yastremska will now head to Indian Wells where she received a wild card for the main draw.
