Novak Djokovic didn’t achieve his incredible success by chance, but by being a sheer perfectionist.
The former world no.1 is one of the top favorites to win the title at the US Open, but to do that he is well aware that he needs to have a flawless game. This is what has not happened in the 2nd round against the world no.61 Tennys Sandgren.
In fact, after winning 6-1 6-3 2-1 comfortably, the Serbian legend got sloppy to lose the 3rd set after not being able to convert a match point when leading 5-4. Finally, Nole got back into his grove in the 4th set to finally win the encounter 6-1 6-3 6-7 (2) 6-2.
I was pissed off. DJOKOVIC
Soon after the match, Nole commented
“Credit to Tennys for playing well, fighting, a great attitude on the court. thought I played very well for the first two-and-a-half sets and then I just lost it mentally, I got pissed off at something, myself, my game, I don’t know.
I’m not happy with the way I lost that concentration and composure there, but I managed to regroup in the fourth.
I started talking to myself, to my team, to everyone else. But it’s in these kinds of moments you learn lessons, and hopefully, I’ll move on a better player.”
Next vs. Djokovic vs. Gasquet
Nole will face Richard Gasquet in the 3rd round. The head to head is 12-1 for Djokovic.
