Roger Federer has a routine win over Benoit Paire in the US Open 2nd round to set up a blockbuster clash against Nick Kyrgios.
The match
Roger didn’t have to battle too much from a mental point of view as he managed to get a break early in each set.
In the opener, Federer broke Paire in the 5th game (3-2), but he conceded his own serve soon after (4-4). However, the Frenchman proved to be too erratic again, and Federer won the final break in the 11th game (6-5) before winning 7-5.
The seed no.2 was much more stable on his serve in the second set, and the difference between him a Paire was a break in the 5th game (3-2) before Roger won 6-4.
Federer got a strong 4-1 (2-breaks-up) lead in the 3rd set that was enough for him to win the contest 7-5 6-4 6-4.
It’s always tricky against Paire. FEDERER
Roger was happy he has managed to tame the erratic Frenchman that has eventually committed 47 unforced errors (11 double faults).
Roger commented
“I think it’s always tricky against Benoit. There’s a lot of tactics going on. Never quite the same point.
Sometimes he plays very deep in the court; then he plays up in the court. That’s maybe why you draw errors out of each other rather than winners at the end.,” he said.
The match maybe doesn’t look so good.”
Next vs. Kyrgios
Roger will face Nick Kyrgios in the 3rd round in what will be the match of the day. The head to head is 2-1 for Federer
