At 18 years of age, Carlos Garfia becomes the youngest player to win an ATP title in Rio de Janeiro. The Spanish sensation records another incredible achievement to break the top20 at 18 years and 9 months preceding the likes of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
Nadal reached the top20 when he was 18 years and 10 months, Federer at 19 years and 6 months, and Djokovic at 19 years and 4 months.

Carlito decided not to play in Acapulco because he is struggling with his right elbow after winning the title in Rio de Janeiro. The young Spaniard will be back through his country to take some rest before competing in the Davis Cup. Later, he will play the ATP1000 in Indian Wells.
