Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the most exciting and fearless players on tour.
At 20-year-old, the Greek is rather well known for the fact that he is not scared of finding new (winning) solutions against his opponents.
I was about to die 3 years ago. TSITSIPAS
During an interview with The Times, Stefanos revealed when 3 years ago he was about to die and how that played on his mind. The Greek commented
“My friend and I had a sauna and then went to the sea to refresh. We jumped in, didn’t realize how dangerous it was that day. The water just got deeper and deeper without realizing and we were in disbelief trying to figure out what happened. We were drowning because the waves were so big that day. The conditions were so wild, and it was impossible to fight against those conditions. We couldn’t breathe, I felt awful to be inside the water and was terrified. I didn’t know how all this was going to end.
We were trying to swim towards the beach, but it seemed pointless. My father saw us from afar and he jumped in, started swimming towards us and pushed us towards the beach. Somehow, we managed to survive in the end after really struggling. I was just a few breaths away from dying.
It woke me up a bit, made me realize how less important other things are in your own life. It made me realize how lucky I was that I was still living life and that I was not somewhere else. I was not scared of anything after that. Still, to this day, I am not scared of anything.
I think this experience helped me become wiser and stronger, physically and mentally.”
This guy is getting more and more interesting. Let’s see when he will not be “scared” of winning his first major.
