Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime are best friends, and they are the darlings of Tennis Canada.
The youngsters are going to face off in the 1st round of the US Open n what is going to be one of the most exciting openers of this edition.
Shapovalov. “It’s great seeing Felix coming up.”
This week Denis expressed his delight about Felix’ improvements. However, he didn’t know that his friend would have been his next opponent after Auger-Aliassime qualified for the main draw.
Denis commented
“It’s great to see Felix coming up. And with Milos back and Vasek doing well it’s a great time for Canadian tennis.
I feel like there’s a growing belief in Canada that you can make it as a tennis player.”

Michael Downey, the president and CEO of Tennis Canada commented
“It’s unfortunate they have to play each other in the first round, but quite frankly this is going to be the first of many times they’ll lock horns.
They both want to win, and they’re professionals, and they know the winner gets to play Wednesday in the second round. That’s worth a lot of points, a lot of prize money and a lot of pride. So, I think they will be able to turn their friendship off, but they’ll continue to show respect for each other.
They’ll enter as friends, and they’ll exit as friends.”
The match will take place at the Grand Stand at 5 pm.
