Aryna Sabalenka confirms that she is one of the most interesting players on tour.
The 2-year-old wins her maiden title in New Haven after she conceded just 5 games to Carla Suarez Navarro in final.
How Sabalenka won the final
Aryna started the match in the best possible way after grabbing a 5-0 lead before winning the opener 6-1. The match became a bit more event in the second set when the Spaniard managed to give a bit more resistance, but it was the Belarussian to find the final blow in the 9th game after breaking Carla for the 4th time.
The final game was a bit of a thriller as Aryna wasn’t able to convert 2 consecutive championship points (40-15) before saving a break point soon after. Finally, Sabalenka kept her focus to conquer the last 3 points and win the match 6-1 6-4.
“I am so happy with my first title. This is a great feeling. In the first second you are so happy, then you understand, I have to work more because the next year I have to do it again. This is how I feel right now.”
Yes, a champion is born, and she will stay so.
