Novak Djokovic had to skip the Australian summer because he didn’t want to be vaccinated. Unfortunately, the Serbian champion may have more problems in the future to compete all over the world if he doesn’t get the jabs. In fact, more and more countries are requiring foreigners to be fully vaccinated if they want to access their territories. In addition, it seems there is a trend among some ATP tournaments to require tennis players to be fully vaccinated.

Will Djokovic play in Indian Wells?

Novak Djokovic is already on the Indian Wells entry list, a tournament that he has won already 5 times (2008, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016). However, in an official communication, the tournament’s organization declared that tennis players need to be fully vaccinated to compete in the event.

Therefore, it is safe to assume that either Novak Djokovic will be fully vaccinated to play in California or he will skip this tournament. Djokovic will definitely play the ATP500 that will be staged in Dubai from the 21st of January.

This was the official communication:

“With health and safety as the tournament’s top priority, the BNP Paribas Open will require valid proof of full vaccination to enter the Indian Wells Tennis Garden for the tournament. For the second consecutive year, the BNP Paribas Open has partnered with CLEAR, the secure identity company, to facilitate the implementation of the venue’s mandatory vaccination policy ahead of the 2022 tournament. The guidelines for the players are governed by the protocols established by their respective governing bodies, the WTA and ATP, as well as any restrictions established by the United States of America in regard to the vaccination status of international travelers entering the country.”

Is Djokovic vaccinated?

According to Daniel Muksch, who has written a biography of Djokovic, the world No.1 will get his shots.

“From what I have heard from those around him, I think he is getting vaccinated. Maybe the final in Melbourne also contributed to that. Rafael Nadal’s 21 is driving him, no question,” Muksch said reportedly on Austrian TV station Servus TV
