Horrid stuff. Stephens crashes out in first round in Bogota’ to world no.129!

This is a big nightmare for Sloane Stephens that in Bogota she loses in the first round for the 4th time in this season.

The young American was in the match till the 8th game of the first set when she surrendered the serve for the first time (5-3). Then it was game over. Sloane lost the opener 6-3 to found herself 4-0 down in the second set. The American lost 7 consecutive games since she was on a 3-3 score-line in the first set! Eventually Stephens offered some opposition at the end of the second set, but it was too late. The match ended 6-3 6-3 after 65 minutes. Match Stats

Duque-Marino commented “I was prepared for a hard match. You never know what the score is going to be, but the match was much tougher than what the score indicated.  I’m so happy. Not just for beating Stephens but also because I played really well. I think from the start of the match, I was really confident and it showed during the match.”

Sloane has now a terrible 7-7 win/lose record in 2014… not good for a top 20 player.
