The Big3 have dominated the tennis landscape (ATP) for 2 decades, winning 61 slams in total. While that was fantastic for tennis, the Big3 also closed the door for many tennis players like Andy Murray and now Stefanos Tsitsipas.
There was an interesting scenario depicted by tennis writer Bastien Fachan about who would have been the slam champions if the Big3 were not part of our sport.
The criteria take into consideration the last non-Big 3 player standing and, if tied, the player with the best winning H2H on the surface and then the ranking.
Interestingly enough, in this “parallel universe,” Andy Murray would have been the GOAT with 17 slams (and a calendar year slam in 2011). Wawrinka and Roddick would have 6 slams under their belts. Tsisipas would have enjoyed 3 majors.
17 – Murray
6 – Wawrinka, Roddick
4 – Medvedev, Thiem, Safin
3 – Tsitsipas, Cilic, Hewitt
2 – Del Potro, Kevin Anderson, Gasquet, Ferrer, Soderling, Baghdatis, Davydenko
1 – Philippoussis, Nalbandian, Gonzalez, Tsonga, Monfils, Berdych, RBA, Berrettini, Youzhny
