Danielle Rose Collins reached the Australian Open semifinal after defeating Alize Cornet in straight sets to face Iga Swiatek for a place in the final. After beating the Frenchwoman, Collins had very nice words for her boyfriend, coach, and father during the on-court interview.
Coaching team and boyfriend
Danielle commented:
“Having this type of support means so much to me, and you know, having Marty over the last couple of years and having somebody believe in me.
He’s one of the only people I felt like that believed in me right after college, and he wanted to help support me to make sure that I could get what I needed and to be able to go out and travel and play all of the tournaments.
I wouldn’t have been able to do that without Marty and having my boyfriend (Joe Vollen) taking off time for work is very special and I’m sure he’s going to need to get back to work at some point, but hopefully, we can keep this thing rolling.
And my doubles partner was awesome, and being able to come out here and support me means so much I think that’s one of the most special things about our sport is the friendships and camaraderie that we share in the locker room.”
Thanking her father
Danielle was also grateful for the help she received from her father when she started her career to say:
“[It meant a lot for me to reach the semifinal]. The amount of hours I spent each day on the court playing at the park with my dad and him driving me around everywhere to try to get me the best resources to get to where I am today.
