Ashleigh Barty is about to face Madison Keys in the Australian Open semifinal with the aim of finally winning her home slam. Here is her biography with reference to her net worth, coach, aborigen origin, family and boyfriend.
Ashleigh was born on 24 April 1996 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia, to Josie and Robert Barty. Ashleigh has 2 sisters: Ali, Sara. Her father became a Queensland and Australian representative in golf before working for the State Library of Queensland. her mother was also a state representative for Queensland in golf.
Barty started playing tennis when she was just four. Initially, she played netball, but she decided not to focus on that sport because it was “for girls.”
Ashleigh won 14 career titles so far including the French Open (2019) and Wimbledon (2021).
The Aborigenal origin
Ashleigh has always been proud of her indigenous origins. Barty has Ngarigo ancestry through her father’s side. This is an interesting similarity with Evonne Goolagong Cawley, an Indigenous Australian, who conquered her first Wimbledon in 1971. Cawley is of Wiradjuri Aboriginal descent. Ashleigh won Wimbledon in 2021 and on that occasion she decided to wear a dress inspired by Cawley 1971 Wimbledon outfit.
“For me to be able to wear an outfit inspired by Evonne’s iconic scalloped dress is really amazing. Before we had put in the process of creating my version of her iconic dress, I wanted to make sure she was okay. I called her and asked her. She was really excited,” said Ashleigh.
Net worth and boyfriend
Barty won US$21,665,851 in prize money so far. Her net worth is estimated at US$ 16,000,000.
Ashleigh has been dating her boyfriend Garry Kissick since 2016. He is a 30-year-old golf player and PGA Trainee Professional working at the Brookwater Golf & Country Club in Brisbane. They are currently engaged after he proposed last November.
