MENTAL HEALTH. Anisimova praises Naomi Osaka after she lost her father

Amanda Anisimova happy with Naomi Osaka spreading awareness about mental health issue

Amanda Anisimova And Naomi Osaka

Amanda Anisimova won a fantastic battle against Naomi Osaka in the Australian Open 3rd round. The American player seems to be on her way back after she tragically lost her father and long-time coach back in 2019.

Three years ago, before losing her dad, Amanda was on a roll. The American teenager still had to turn 18 after she won her maiden title in Bogota and reached the Roland Garros semifinal. Things got a horrible turn when her father passed away right before the US Open.

Amanda was understandably devastated by the loss and also because of the Coronavirus pandemic, she was in a sort of a “tennis limbo” for a couple of years. Fortunately, Anisimova started the new season in the best possible way with an amazing 8-0 win-loss record after winning a WTA event in Melbourne and reaching the Australian Open 4th round.

Naomi Osaka and Mental Health

Naomi Osaka also had her fair share of issues in 2021 when she decided not to play many tournaments, publicly stating that she was struggling with mental issues. During the press conference that followed Amanda Anisimova’s match against the Japanese player, the American sensation praised Naomi for raising awareness about mental issues.

When lauding Naomi, Amanda commented:

“For sure, just to spread awareness and try to get rid of the stigma around mental health. I think that we’re in a completely different time now.”

This generation is becoming more honest about all these kinds of things. I think it’s great to see. I’m comfortable speaking about whatever, you know.

I’ve gone through a couple of hard years, and I don’t mind posting stuff on social media and just try to spread awareness for people who are also going through tough things. I think it’s great to be relatable to other people who follow us. I think it’s a great message.”
