What a match for Jo-Wilfred Tsonga!
The Frenchman wasn’t playing at his very best to be 4-6 and 1-5 down in the 2nd set tie-break against Baghdatis. Actually the match was clearly over as Marcos was lifter by the entire crowd and Jo looked quite down. Then the incredible happened as Jo won 5 consecutive points (!!!) to lead 6-5 and finally win the breaker at 6.
The decider was a sheer battle that Tsonga won just by breaking Marcos at the very last game (the 11th). The final result was 4-6 7-6 (6) 7-5 in 2 hours and 20 minutes with Baghdatis winning more points than Tonga’s (111 vs. 105). Match Stats.
Jo commented “Tennis is tough because until the last ball is finished you’re still alive, and that’s what happened. I was really happy to see my drop shots go in the court and win this point because I had two serves with the possibility to be back in the game, and that’s what happened.”
