Novak Djokovic finally won the court of appeal about the cancellation of his visa on arrival. While he now has the clearance to leave the detention center, he may not be able to play the Australian Open and that may happen for 3 years.
Why could Djokovic be banned for 3 years?
According to the judge that has accepted Novak Djokovic’s appeal, the Home Affairs Minister could still exercise a “personal power” to cancel Djokovic’s visa. Apparently, Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews reserves her personal power to remove Djokovic from Australia, which may prompt a ban that could last 3 years under s 133C(3).
Unfortunately, the impression is that all this drama is not over.
