WTA The draw of the WTA500 that is currently played in Sydney keeps on being revised. After the withdrawal of Iga Swiatek, it was time for the seed number 1, Ashleigh Barty, to declare that she would miss the tournament. Apparently, the world number 1 is not injured and she decided not to play to save some energy for the Australian Open that will be played next week. She conquered the title in Adelaide last week.
Barbora Krejcikova will take Ashleigh’s spot in the draw and she may face the new British sensation Emma Raducanu in the quarters.

Ranked no.19 (career-high), Raducanu played her last match on the 9th of November 2021 when she capitulated to world no.101 Xinyu Wang 6-1 6-7(0) 7-5 in the 2nd round in Linz (draw).

Ranked world no.5, Barbora played her last match on the 14th of November 2021 when she was overcome by world no.4 Karolina Pliskova 0-6 6-4 6-4
in the round robin in Guadalajara (draw).Emma Raducanu and Barbora Krejcikova have never faced off.
Ashleigh Barty in 2022
Now ranked no.1, the Australian played her last match on the 9th of January when she defeated world no.14 Elena Rybakina 6-3 6-2 in the final in Adelaide to win her 14th career title.
During this season Ashleigh has a 4-0 match record. Barty conquered 1 title in Adelaide.
