Playing Karlovic is always difficult. The Croatian has the best service in tennis history, a decent volley … but his baseline tennis is miles away from been competitive in the top100. So you always expect a very peculiar match with no rhythm and lots of serve and volleys.
Roger started the match in the best possible way by breaking Ivo in the very first game and win the opener 6-4 (the Swiss dropped just 1 point on his service game!). In the second set Roger didn’t manage to convert 2 break points and the match went straight to the breaker that the Swiss won at 4. So it can be quite difficult or overwhelming. But if you’re in the right mindset mentally, it can also be enjoyable. That’s how I approach the match, anyway.”
