What a battle for Serena Williams!
The world no.1 had a good start in the first set to lead 3-1. Then Shvedova fought back to break Serena twice and lead 5-3 (!!!). Yaroslava had also 3 consecutive set points in the tiebreak (6-3), ut Serena was just too good to win the breaker at 7.
The second set was more “Serena’s style” with the world no.1 winning 6-2.
Serena: She played really well
The American commented “She was playing really, really well. When she was up a break I really tried to fight to make the shots. And when she was serving for the first set, I just tried to be more Serena-like.
She was doing a little bit of everything today – she was hitting hard, she was hitting soft, she was doing a little bit of everything. I was making a few more errors than what I should have been making, what I should have made, and that really kind of threw me for a loop during the match as well.
But I just tried to come back and stay in the match.”
