Emma Raducanu and Nick Kyrgios have to play their first match this season. Both had to decline playing a warm-up event in the first week of January. Emma was late in her preparation after she got infected by the coronavirus during her stay in Abu Dhabi. Nick could not play in Melbourne this week since he felt sick even if he did not test positive for covid.

Both of them will play this week in Sydney and their paths crossed on the practice court when Emma was testing her volleys.

Emma Raducanu in 2022

Now ranked no.

19 (career-high), Raducanu played her last match on the 9^th of November 2021 when she lost to world no.101 Xinyu Wang 6-1 6-7(0) 7-5 in the 2^nd round in Linz (draw).

Nick Kyrgios in 2022

At the moment ranked no.93, the Australian played his last match on the 25^th of September 2021 when he surrendered to world no.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-4 in the round robin in the Laver Cup (draw).
