Emma Raducanu ended last season in the top 20 after winning a sensational US Open title. However, according to former world number 3 Pam Shiver, Emma will probably not enjoy the same position in 1 year’s time.
The American said that Emma needs to have a period of consolidation before aiming to other big titles.
Coach and team changes
After winning the US Open, Emma made a lot of changes. She surprised her fans after parting ways with her coach soon after clinching the title in New York. She is now partnering with Angelique Kerber’s former coach Torben Beltz.
Talking with the WTA. Pam commented:
“I think 2022 is going to continue to be a challenge for her. I think it’s going to be 2023 when we have a clearer idea of what her consistency level is going to be. I might be wrong, but it was such a sudden, unnatural step from qualifying to winning a major, never been done before, followed up by all these new business partnerships, recognition, and coaching changes.
The only thing that has remained the same is her name, the sport she plays and her agent. I feel like everything else around her has changed, and when you’re a teenager you’re already going through a lot of changes.”
I’d be surprised if she’s still in the Top 20 at the end of the year.”
Emma Raducanu was meant to play a WTA event this week. However, she had to withdraw because her preseason was interrupted after being infected by the Coronavirus
