Bernard Tomic and Novak Djokovic do not have much in common except that Bernard’s parents are both from the Balcans. During a recent episode of the Functional Tennis Podcast, the Australian player revealed that he wants to become more dedicated to tennis and he has already changed something in his life to achieve that.

Being Vegan

Bernard has always been considered a big talent, but his erratic behavior dented his career. At 29 years of age, Tomic revealed that he wants to bounce back. He also has changed his diet inspired by Novak Djokovic to become vegan.

“Yes, like you know, I wasn’t very professional with the outside stuff I was doing, with the eating, with the training obviously.

“You know I changed to Vegan two and a half, three years ago and I love it, it’s an amazing feeling. A lot of successful people are vegan. I got inspired actually by Novak, so it was something I tried and it worked for me. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to eating anything else so I’m a proud vegan.”

Ranked no.260, Bernard will not access the Australian Open main draw unless he receives a wildcard. That has still to be established.

Djokovic not happy to be labeled vegan

Even if Bernard Tommy said that he became vegan because he was inspired by Novak Djokovic, the Serbian champion has always maintained that he does not like to be labeled vegan.

Novak once said:

“I don’t like the labels, to be honest. I do eat plant-based, for quite a few years already. But because of the misinterpretations of labels and misuse of labels, I just don’t like that kind of name

. I do eat plant-based. I think that’s one of the reasons why I recover well. I don’t have allergies that I used to have anymore.”
