Emma Raducanu wins the prestigious 2021 Sports Personality of the Year award. There was not much of a surprise about the outcome. The British teenager caught the attention of her compatriots and beyond after she won an unexpected and incredible US Open title starting from the qualifications.
Raducanu has become the first female tennis player to win the Sports Personality of the Year since Virginia Wade made it in 1977. Virginia was also the last British woman to win a slam singles title.
Emma preceded diver Tom Daley placed second and swimmer Adam Peaty was third.
During her acceptance speech, Raducanu commented:
“It’s such an honour just to be among these nominees. Congrats to you and all your achievements. “I’m really happy with this, I’ve watched Sports Personality of the Year growing up and it’s an honour to be among those past winners.
I’m happy for British tennis as well, and that we’ve managed to get this award…again! Thanks to all the fans and voters, this year has been insane. The energy this year playing at Wimbledon in front of my home crowd, that was something I’ve never felt before.”

LWWLLWWWWL At the moment ranked no.19 (career-high), Emma played her last match on the 9th of November when she was defeated by world no.102 Xin Yu Wang 6-1 6-7(0) 7-5 in the 2nd round in Linz (draw).
Currently, during this season the Brit has achieved a 25-9 record. Emma conquered 1 title at the U.S. Open. Raducanu reached the final in Chicago.
