Emma Raducanu has always been considered the top favorite to win the prestigious BBC sports personality of the year 2021 after winning an impossible US Open title.
Nevertheless, the British sensation has still to battle with some other strong names for the prestigious recognition. One of them was supposed to be Lewis Hamilton, who lost a heartbreaking race on Sunday to miss his 8th title. Anyway, Lewis was expected to be still one of the contenders for the award. The big surprise is that the Formula 1 driver was not even included in the list.
Instead, Emma will battle against diver Tom Daley, boxer Tyson Fury, swimmer Adam Peaty, footballer Raheem Sterling and Paralympic cyclist Dame Sarah Storey. It is since 2006 since a woman does not win the award (Zara Phillips in 2006)

At the moment ranked no.19 (career-high), the Brit played her last match on the 9th of November when she capitulated to world no.102 Xin Yu Wang 6-1 6-7(0) 7-5 in the 2nd round in Linz (draw).
This year Emma achieved a composed 25-9 record. Raducanu clinched 1 title at the U.S. Open. Emma got to the final in Chicago.
