Pierre-Hugues Herbert announces that he will not play the Australian Open because he does not want to be vaccinated. The Frenchman is the first player to publicly announce his refusal to get the jab to play the slam Down Under. Herbert is ranked only no. 110 in singles, but he is no.8 in doubles after winning the ATP Finals with Nicholas Mahut in Turin.
The Frenchman commented:
“Of course, from the moment I couldn’t go [to Australia] without being vaccinated, it necessarily complicated things. But yes, for my part, it is a personal choice not to be vaccinated. I don’t know how long it will last; I don’t know if it’s feasible today to be a tennis player without being vaccinated.”
