Amazing Giorgi upsets Sharapova in Indian Wells

What a great day for Camila Giorgi!

The world no.79 reaches the fourth round in Indian Wells after defeating Maria Sharapova in a thriller.

The match wasn’t played at the highest level with 15 breaks on 31 games and lots of double faults (9 Giorgi and 11 for Sharapova), but we are sure that the Italian is not really bothered by that to comment “It was a really good match – it wasn’t too consistent, but it was great anyway. I just tried to play my game and keep going, and even if I missed, I still played my game. I didn’t change. I think I was just playing more aggressive than her at the end and that was really important.”

Sharapova: It was just a bad day

Maria wasn’t impressed by her performance “I did not play a good match at all. I had never played against her, but she’s someone who doesn’t give you much rhythm. She’s quite aggressive, but some shots she hits incredible for a long period of time, then sometimes she goes off for a bit. But my level was nowhere near where it should have been. I guess just a bad day.”

Next vs. Pennetta

Camila will play her compatriot Flavia Pennetta in the 4th round. Head to head is 1-0 for Giorgi.
